No, you cannot plant a tree where one was removed. Many factors indicate planting a new tree in the same place is not good for the young tree.
Therefore, I will discuss why you should not plant a tree where one was removed. The most important reason is the roots of the old tree might affect the growth of the new tree.
Furthermore, the old tree leaves many nutritional deficiencies in the soil, which is not the best idea for growing a new tree. Most of the time, this leads towards failure in growing new plants.
Two Japanese researchers, Shin-ichiro and Kanehiro, conducted research in 2020 in a forest in Malaysia to examine the responses of trees. One tree was planted in the new and nutritious rich soil, and the other was planted in old/used and nutrient-deficient soil.
Moreover, they observed that the growth of the tree planted in the new soil grew fast in less time. Whereas the tree planted in old soil grew slowly over more time.
Secondly, the nutritious count rate was perfect in the first tree, and the nutritious count rate was less in the second tree.
The experiment resulted in the idea that the old soil used before could be better for planting new trees. That results in malnutrition growth and wasting time and seeds.

Reasons why you should not plant a tree where one was removed?
Firstly, the old tree roots remain in the soil, which is not beneficial for the new tree. Furthermore, the old tree may be diseased after removing from the soil. The leftover germs can affect the new tree if planted in the same place.
The old tree absorbs the nutrients, and the used soil is less useful for the new tree. So the idea of growing a new tree is useless. Another reason is that the removal process and stump grinding becomes the reason to remove the nutrient level from the soil.
According to my research, the used soil changes its pH level, which harms the new trees. The new tree in the old place might not resist due to its texture. So the changed composition level becomes less useful for the new plant.
If you removed an old tree because it was dying due to any disease, it is not a good idea to plant a new tree on the same soil. First, you must make it pathogens-free and kill the germs to make the soil fertile.
Therefore, new plants and trees need accurate and healthy soil to grow. So they should be planted in a new place where no trees were planted in the past because trees are the source of maintaining the earth’s atmosphere.
If planted in the right place, they can function properly. Moreover, they become beneficial for the atmosphere of the earth and become the best source for living things,
When to plant a tree in the same spot
Firstly if you want to fill the gap in the soil where the tree is removed, it is best to plant the new tree two meters away from the used soil because the same soil will give no results. So it’s better to plant somewhere else, where there was no plant grown.
If you are worried about the place, that you are short of place and want to plant a new tree in old soil so you should take care of a few things:
- Do not plant a new tree after removing an old one; wait for the soil to decompose.
- If your old tree was diseased, you first have to kill the pathogens with the help of pests so that the soil becomes disease free.
- To make the soil useful again, you have to remove the roots of the old tree so that the soil becomes useful for a new tree.
conclusion
In conclusion, it is not a good choice to plant a tree immediately after removing the old tree. It can lead towards many other plant growth and health issues. So it’s better to consider the safe options of growing new trees.
Because after removing a tree from the soil, its composition changes and no longer remains fertile. The number of carbon increases due to rainwater, and it takes years to break down in the old soil and make the same soil able to plant a new tree.

After professionally cleaning the soil of pathogens, pests, and insects, planting a new tree in the same spot takes at least three years. The remaining roots and pathogens can kill the new tree. So it’s better to find new ways to plant a tree in a new place.
