Lanzones are shrub that may reach a height of 30 meters and has a base of 75 inches in diameter. On the other hand, grafted lanzones trees are barely 5-10 m tall. From the root and the most significant branches, inflorescences with beautiful blooms emerge. The product is a berry containing 1-3 beans surrounded by a thick aril. Some cells are of aril tissue that has not yet formed seeds.
The fruit was fresh by pressing till the skin breaks and then removing the arils, which may or may not include seeds, from their segments. Those pale arils are what they consume. Fruits with no seeds may preserve in syrup. The dry peels can use to repel mosquitos by heating them with charcoal.
The tree mainly grows as an intercrop beneath coconut or with durian and other shade-giving companion plants. It can only flourish in protected and humid conditions at elevations of up to 800 m but likes to be around sea level. It is sensitive to both water stress and vigorous light intensity. It favors well-drained soils, retains water, is high in organic matter, and is somewhat acidic. Lanzones are not fond of sandy coastal soils or alkaline soils.
Planting.
The recommended plant-to-plant distance varies from 8 m × 8 m in the Philippines to 12 m x 12 m in southern Thailand for the longkong varieties. However, Hongkong trees may plant 6 meters apart in the Philippines. Outgrowing is best done at the beginning and after the monsoon season. On the other hand, planting may do at any time in areas with evenly distributed rain or available watering.
Planting holes should be at least 50 cm broad and deep. Before planting, 5 kg of agricultural manure and 100 mg of complete fertilizer must be poured at the base and covered with dirt. When the seedlings grow, the hole can replace the soil and promptly water plants.
Tree maintenance.
Within the first few years, young trees are must in shade and water regularly. The main stem of upright langsat varieties may trim back 80-100 cm from the ground, and developing branches can train horizontally. Only water sprouts and unhealthy branches should be cut from elder trees. Weeding and composting should be done regularly.
How long do grafted lanzones produce fruit?
Lanzones are trained to yield fruit five years after they can plant. Even if double root-stocked, it can do it in less time. This is highly conceivable with the emergence of grafting longkong lanzones from Thailand and Malaysia.
What is the height of grafted lanzones?
Because it is a temporary crop, it only bears fruit from late September to early November, and most of the year is spent waiting. The tree is upright, short-trunk, slender, or spreading, growing to a height of 35 to 50 feet (10.5 to 15 meters), with red-brown or golden wrinkle bark.
